Ginger Snaps recipe

Every so often I find something I am sure I really really wanted, but now I am not certain of the context.

This recipe, I am fairly sure, was given me by someone who happens to be a really great baker. If this is the one I think it is, they were absolutely wonderful and I nommed lots! So I am going to throw this up here in hopes I will a) not lose it, and b) feel compelled to make a batch of these real soon now if only to take pictures of them to post here.

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 c. shortening
  • 3/4 c. brown sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 c. molasses
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • pinch of salt
  • granulated white sugar

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°. Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg and beat well. Heat molasses to lukewarm, add baking soda and sir. Combine the two mixtures. Add flour, cinnamon, ginger, and salt. Shape into balls, roll through sugar. Bake for 10-12 min. Makes about 2 dozen cookies.
