Every night since we took possession we have managed to pause at sunset.
Tonight the horizon was hidden by the smoke and dust trapped by the inversion layer which the heat and high pressure are holding over the city and the valley.
The extraordinary poor visibility is due, in part, to a peat fire which is burning on Lulu Island, just south of the Fraser River which forms the southern boundary of the city of Vancouver. The city there is Richmond, which is not-exactly-a-suburb but really it is.
Looking north from the balcony the mountains seem to fade into the smog. There should be more to see there…
