Once upon a time Dad and Mom loaded the youngest half of the family in the van and road-tripped out to the west coast to pick up or visit Lori, who was attending school near Portland. This included a side-trip to Poulsbo on the Kitsap Peninsula in Washington, which is not at all along the direct route from Minnesota to the coast of Oregon, to visit Dad’s uncle Otto.

Otto Ranum was half-brother to Dad’s father Oscar Ranum, and moved west with his wife and family to establish another branch on that coast. But we have some photographic evidence of them in our batch of negatives, including a great photo of Terry and Lori at Christmas in 1956.

The photo above is the view from their home over Liberty Bay which fronts Poulsbo. Years later I moved to Apple Tree Cove, which is just up the peninsula from Poulsbo.
