Every so often I enjoy pushing my hardware to its maximum.
Last night I ran a compile which lasted more than 4 hours, with the CPU pretty much pinned around 500%, which was rather impressive for a 4-cpu chip a few generations old.
Tonight I am scanning several terrabytes of disk while sync-ing a couple terrabytes over the network. The USB drive is probably the bottleneck, but the sync is moving along at 30MBs, and the scan is chewing up about 225% of CPU. The sync is predicting at least another hour or so; I am betting the full scan will take 18 hours.
Watching all these monitors jiggling about is kind of cool, but ultimately rather boring.
